Teenagers always want to change themselves. So do I.
Some of them want to lose or gain weight. Some want to look older. Teenagers want to be more athletic or to look cool and fashionable. They want to dress well and to have more pocket money.
As for me, I’d like to get smarter and to improve my memory. I want to become more sociable and independent. I also want to be less lazy. I’d like to have more real friends and to get along with my parents and teachers. I’d like to get better marks at school and to improve my English.

From the one hand I am optimistic about the future. People make progress in different areas: medicine, electronic technology, space. I think people will have a cure for most diseases. They will travel more. Computers and science will change people’s life.
From the other hand, I am afraid of the future. We have a lot of serious problems: bombs, pollution, dangerous technologies, new serious diseases. People should solve these problems to be happy in the future. We should stop pollution and wars. I want our planet to be safe for living. People should work hard to do it.

Most people in the world have some superstitions. They believe in good luck and in bad luck. British people believe that black cats are lucky. They try to catch falling leaves in autumn to have good luck. Every leaf means a lucky month in the next year. They think that two magpies are lucky.
The British try not to open the umbrella in the house and not to walk under a ladder. They think that number 13 is unlucky. They also think that Friday the 13-th is a very unlucky date.
Russian people also have superstitions. They hate number 13 and cross fingers. Many people have horseshoe over the door.
As for me, I believe/ don’t believe in superstitions. I try to…/ not to…

Nowadays it’s necessary to know a foreign language.
Knowledge of foreign languages helps us to develop friendship and understanding among people.
Speaking a foreign language you can read papers, magazines and original books, watch satellite TV programs, travel everywhere you want, find a good job.
English is spoken practically all over the world.
It is spoken as the mother tongue in Great Britain, the United States of America, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
A lot of people speak English in China, Japan, India, Africa and other countries.
More than 1 billion people speak English all over the world.
It is one of 6 official languages of the United Nations.
English is studied as a foreign language in many schools.
It has become the language of the planet, the first truly global language.
Three-quarters of the world’s mail are in English.
It is the language of sports: the official language of the Olympic Games.
English is the official voice of the air and the sea.
Foreign language is a compulsory subject at our schools.
I study English, because I want to communicate with people from different countries, I want to understand their culture and traditions.
Speaking English I can travel anywhere.
It is not easy to learn English, as you have to read much and to learn a lot of new words
by heart.
I like studying English; it is one of my favorite subjects at school.

Television plays an important role in our life. It is clear that television has advantages and disadvantages. Television is an entertainment. We can turn on the TV-set and watch interesting films, concerts, football matches. But some people think that it's bad to watch TV. We are passive when we watch TV. Television shows us many interesting programmes, but sometimes the programmes are bad.
There is also too much pop music and ads. I don’t have much time to watch TV, but if I am not busy I prefer watching… Sometimes I watch news programmes/ discussions/ interviews/ serials about teenagers.
TV programmers can tell us a lot about the world around us/ the wild life/ animals/ sports.

Russian people like holidays. There are a lot of holidays and traditions in our country.
One of my favourite holidays is New Year.
Peter the First ordered to celebrate this holiday on the 1st of January, to decorate houses with evergreen plants, to make fireworks.
We usually decorate the New Year Tree with sweets, glass balls and coloured lights. We always give and receive a lot of gifts. On that day we cook special tasty dishes. People have fun and welcome the New Year. They wish their relatives and friends to be happy. For me the New Year means a lot of fun, joy, sweets and presents. I like this holiday very much.
I also like my birthday. Relatives and friends come to see me and bring presents.
Thousands of years ago people could send messages over a long distance. They used the lights of fires and the sound of drums.
In the nineteenth century the electric telegraph was invented. People used a special code to send messages. The telephone was invented by Bell, who was born in Scotland, in 1847.
Some years later there were telephones all over the world. Telephone lines became longer and longer. Today we can talk across seas, oceans and continents.
Now we can use the Internet to send and receive massages. We can make new friends and chat with them on the Internet. As for me…
