What do you think about people's hobbies? A hobby is something that people do for pleasure in their free time. People have a lot of hobbies, but tastes differ, of course. Some individuals are fond of collecting stamps, post-cards, labels. These are the most common cases, I believe. By the way, they cost a pretty penny, they really do. Stamps are very expensive nowadays, to say nothing about books. Books are not deficit items any more, but prices! When you are keen on reading, you don't think about money. Who doubts the usefulness of reading? Nobody does.
Of course, there can be more exotic occupations like, say, taming cats, dogs, rabbits, mice. We can mock at the men when their hobbies are embroidery and sewing and at women when playing football becomes their hobby. But they think differently. Their hobbies help them be full of vigour and vitality. Stamp collecting or playing chess enrich our knowledge in different fields. Collecting photos of favourite actors or musicians also enables a person to keep abreast of the latest cultural news.
Rich people all over the world can afford collecting paintings, coins, icons, cars. Elizabeth Taylor, for example, collected diamonds. Leonid Ilich Brezhnev collected cars. Our tastes are more prosaic, of course. If I had a lot of money, I'd devote all my spare time to travelling. I wish I could go abroad, to Italy, for example. And I want very much to visit the United Kingdom, not only for sightseeing, but stay there for a while and see how they live there and how they teach students. As for my dislikes, I don't like many things. I don't like porridge and hot milk; don't like to be laughed at… But to put it seriously I don't like to be bored and don't like selfish people.
Hobbies. A hobby is a favourite pastime, which a person chooses to his or her liking. If you have chosen a hobby to your liking, lucky you are: you have made your life more interesting.
Numerous hobbies can be subdivided into four large classes: doing things, making things, collecting things, and learning things. The most popular of all hobby groups is doing things. It includes a wide variety of activities, everything from gardening to travelling and from chess to volleyball. A relatively new hobby, which is becoming more popular, is computer games. Also teenagers like to draw, paint, and write music.
Almost everyone collects something at some period of his life: stamps, coins, matchboxes, books, records, postcards, toys, watches. Some collections have no real value. Others become so large and so valuable that they are housed in museums and galleries. Many world-famous collections started in a small way with one or two items. I think learning things is the most exciting aspect of a hobby. I like to take pleasure by learning computer possibilities - it is very useful and valuable knowledge. I'm also interested in music. I collect records and tapes. It's a great pleasure to listen my favourite singers and groups when and where I want it.
Travelling and sightseeing is also very popular among people. Many museums, picture galleries are often visited by those who are fond of art. Places of interest are usually visited by guests and tourists, because they want to know more about the country and the people. No matter what kind of hobby a person has, he always has the opportunity of learning from it.
