Introduction

1.1 Tourism

Tourism is defined as the act of travel with the intentions of recreational pleasure. The World Tourism Organization defines a tourist is someone who travels at least 50 miles or 80 kilometers away from their home, for the purpose of entertainment and pleasure. The terms tourist and tourism were first recognized in 1937 by the League of Nations, whose definition involved a person who traveled abroad for more than 24 hours. Tourism is the act of paying money to go from one place to another to see different and unique sights, has been a fact of civilized life since approximately the 12th century. Of course, back in those days it was basically the upper, upper classes that had the time, the money, and the interest in travelling from one spot to another. The word "travel" by the way comes from the medieval English word "travail" which means suffering great hardship, and that is a very good description of travel in its earliest days. Much has been written about the journeys of Marco Polo, who until recently was considered the world's first tourist. The advent of air travel in the 1930's heralded the true beginnings of what is called "tourism" today. People move from all around the country, whether by plane, boat, car, bus or train. Today's Travel for the Masses Data from the American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA) suggests that at any given moment of any given day, more than 2 million people around the world are in the process of traveling from one place to another. The world tourism organization claims that tourism is currently the worlds largest industry. With annual revenues of almost 3 trillion, its economic impact is second to that of only the weapons industry.

Tourism is basically travelling to another destination for the purposes of recreation, leisure, or business.

A person who travels to a destination and stays outside of where they usually live for more than 24 hours but less than one year is recognized as a tourist by the World Tourism Organization.

The type of tourism depends on the reason for travel. Travel can be to destinations that are domestic or international. Domestic tourism involves residents travelling only within their country. Inbound and Outbound tourism both describe types of international tourism.  Inbound tourism involves non-residents travelling within a country. Outbound tourism, involves residents travelling within another country. There are also many other types of tourism that fall under a “niche” or specialty travel category. This category of travel has evolved in recent years, and describes the various reasons why people travel for recreation, business or leisure.

1. 2 Types of tourism

There are different types of tourism that can be enjoyed. Some are listed below:

Extreme tourism or shock tourism is a type of niche tourism involving travel to dangerous places (mountains, jungles, deserts, caves, etc.) or participation in dangerous events.

Cultural tourism involves visiting historical or intersting cities, such as Paris, Shanghai, Rome or Warsaw. This is when tourists engage in cultural experiences, like visiting an art museum, theater or opera.

Ecotourism involves traveling that does not pose a threat to the environment, such as safariing in Kenya. Ecotourism integrates tourism with ecology, offering wide varieties of landscapes and activities.

Educational tourism developed because of the growing popularity of teaching and learning of knowledge, and enhancing technical competency outside the classroom environment.

Adventure travel is a type of tourism, involving exploration or travel to remote, exotic and possibly hostile areas. Adventure tourism is rapidly growing in popularity, as tourists seek different kinds of vacations. According to the U.S. based Adventure Travel Trade Association, adventure travel may be any tourist activity, including two of the following three components: a physical activity, a cultural exchange or interaction and engagement with nature.

Rural tourism focuses on participating in a rural lifestyle. It can be a variant of ecotourism. Any village can be a tourist attraction, and many villagers are very hospitable. Agriculture is becoming highly mechanized and therefore requires less manual labor. This is causing economic pressure on some villages, leading to an exodus of young people to urban areas.

Significant role in the city's economy is tourism, associated with the reception of visitors from Russia and foreign countries, as well as the associated economic activity in the service sector. The city has a great historical and cultural heritage for the formation of the tourist product, to transform tourism in key sectors of the urban economy. St. Petersburg in 2010 ranked 7th among the most visited and popular tourist cities in Europe (20 in the world).

In 2010, St. Petersburg was visited by 2.3 million foreign (mostly tourists from Finland, Germany, the U.S., Sweden and France) and 2.8 million Russian tourists. The city has 640 large and small hotels for 27,000 rooms [3] (including the hotel "Grand Hotel Europe", "Grand Hotel Emerald", "Astoria", "Corinthia Nevsky Palace Hotel", "Baltic", "Pulkovo , "" St. Petersburg "," Moscow "," Russia "," October "," Azimut Hotel Saint-Petersburg ", etc.), guest houses. Renting apartments and rooms to tourists and visitors is an important source of income for many of St. Petersburg. In 2012, planned to be introduced 10 hotel facilities.

Company, where I have practice

The Travel Company Ltd. "Europa center MC " is a limited liability company, which began its work in 2001, the General Director is Mamonova L.V. The travel company is working closely with other and offers tours of the leading tour operators. Managers of travel agency are regularly trained in the central offices of leading tureoperators, using their years of experience and reliable partners of these firms and learn a modern programs on-line booking.

Opening up new areas and improving the existing ones, they strive to ensure that everyone can find a vacation for the soul. Impeccable service is a difficult task. But there is professionalism and experience. It is difficult to tell what application our employee would not be able to meet. Therefore, the question "What can you offer?" - We always respond boldly - "ALL".

Many travel agencies have their specialization, but not many can afford the same professional work in various areas, to have specialized departments. they have four of them.

  1.  Department of foreign tourism and VIP-service
  2.  Department of Russian tourism and spa services
  3.  Department of children and youth tourism.
  4.  Department of Reception and excursions.

There are charming women in their collective, Their task is to:

  1.   give any client  a complete answers
  2.  find creative solutions
  3.  have the capacity for work, responsibility
  4.  anticipate desires of the client

The basis of  " Europa center MC " corporate identity is calm proprietary gamma of blue tones associated with the sea. This reflects the philosophy of the brand as reliable and friendly.

My practice

Purpose of my  practice was reception of the theoretical foundations of management of the organization in terms of practical activities and preparation of material for writing the report.

My practice  included

  1.  learning the structure of the company
  2.  study of the major functions of the company
  3.  study of business planning
  4.  study of marketing

During the professional practice I got  experience of work in the travel agency " Europa center MC", as a junior assistant manager acquired not only excellent skills in the field of technology tourism, but also entrenched and deepened the theoretical knowledge, acquired skills of independent work.

Travel company " Europa center MC " is a tour agent, witch  has reached some success in the market of tourist services. But there also some possibility for improvement of the activity. I would like to make a few suggestions.

  1.  improvement discount program, creation discount cards
  2.  development of a new website
  3.   to establish their own office

  .

Conclusion.

Tour agency " Europa center MC " offers a variety of modern  tourist products and services. The company offers to tourists the most  unforgettable journeys with the highest level of service. Great team love helpt me to get started in the field of tourist industry.

The work revealed a number of shortcomings in the organizational structure, as described in the report. One of the most significant shortcomings of the enterprise is its bad site, and the lack of advertising  - it slows down the work with customers.

During practice I was able to show my acquired skills in the specialty, met with the forms and methods of work, the current documents, examined the experience of the company, acquired the ability to analyze information and to learn how to plan a day, to determine the ways and forms of solutions of problems.

Analyzing all the information, I have come to the conclusion that I want to continue working in  tourism.
