Personality of my favorite writer: John Ronald Reuel Tolkien

Today I’m going to introduce you my favorite writer, John Ronald Reuel Tolkien. He was an English writer, linguist and philologist. He was well-known by his stories which called: “Hobbit”, the Trilogy “The lord of the rings” and their prehistory which called “Silmarion”
Tolkien was an Oxford’s professor of Anglo – Saxon language from 1925 – 1945 and he was professor of English and Literature from 1945 up to 1959. He consisted in Literature Society which called Inklings. In March of 1972 Tolkien got the rank of commander of order of British Empire from Elisabeth 2nd.
There were many writers who wrote their stories in fantasy genre before Tolkien, but many people called him: “Father of modern fantasy-literature” because of big popularity and strong impact on genre.
J.R.R Tolkien was born in modern South African Republic. When he was a child he was bitten by tarantula. He was cared by doctor whose name was Thornton Quimby and everybody think that he was served as a prototype of Gandalf the Grey. In February of 1896 the Tolkien’s family came back to England because of his father’s death. Becoming a single mother, Mabel asks help from her relatives. Her marriage wasn’t approved by relatives and relocation was very difficult, because nobody helped her. The family settled in Sarehole near the Birmingham. Seeking to find the reliance in her life, she became religious and became catholic (this was led by final gap of relatives’ relationships who were Anglicans). And also she gave religious education for her children. In the result Tolkien was religious all his life. Also his mother taught the basics of Latin language, and also inculcated to love the botany, and Mr. Tolkien loved to draw pictures of nature and flora. When he was four he already knew how to read and write. He read a lot and didn’t like “The treasure island” by Stevenson from the beginning. But he liked the “Alice in wonderland “by Louis Carol. His mother died in 1904, when she was 34 years old. Before her death she entrusted her children to the priest of the Birmingham’s Church. He was a man of strong and extraordinary personality. Francis Morgan was the man who developed an interest to philosophy, and Tolkien was very thankful for that.
In preschool age children spends their free time in nature, so it was enough to picture all of fields and forests in his works. In 1900 he enters to the King Edward’s school. There he learned Old English, and after he begins to learn other languages as Old Welsh, Old Norse, Finnish and Gothic. So, after he learned all of these languages he begins to develop the Elvian”
In 1911, while he studied at King Edward's School, Birmingham, Tolkien and three friends, Rob Gilson, Geoffrey Smith and Christopher Wiseman, formed a semi-secret society which they called the "T.C.B.S.", the initials standing for "Tea Club and Barrovian Society", alluding to their fondness of drinking tea in Barrow's Stores near the school and, secretly, in the school library.
In summer of 1911 Tolkien visited the Switzerland, then he later mentions in a letter in 1968. He notes that the adventure of Bilbo Baggins through the misty mountains was based on the way which Tolkien made with his twelve friends did from Intercalen to Lauterbrunnen. In October of 1911 he began to study in Oxford’s university
In 1908 he meets Edith Mary Brett, who impacted very much to his oeuvre. His love prevented to enter to a college and also Edith was protestant and moreover she was older for 3 years than him. Father Francis was against his relations between them. And he made him promise that he would not even write a letter to her until he will become adult. When he was 21 he made a marriage proposal. She accepted his offer and moreover she became a catholic.
The engagement was held in Birmingham in January of 1913, but the wedding was held in March of 1916. The wedding was held in Warwick. Their union was long and happy. The spouses lived about 56 years together, and brought together three sons. Their name are: John Francis (1917), Michael Hillary Reuel(1920), and Christopher Reuel (1924) , also they had daughter Priscilla Mary Reuel (1929).
To avoid a military call he signed in Military housing in 1914. He graduated from university with the best marks and went to army to act in First and the Second World War. He acted in many battles and lost two close friends from T.C (tea club). They were killed in bloody battle in Somme. After that he hated wars, became ill with typhoid and after long treatment he was returned to home. The subsequent years he conducts in teaching. He becomes the one of the best philologists in the world. When his wife passed away he returns to Oxford in 1971 and dies in 1973 when he was 81 years old. They were buried in one grave.
All his works, which were published after in 1973, including “the Silmarion”, were published by his son Christopher.

So, that’s the main information about Tolkien’s life. For me he was perfect. He had hard and interesting life as well. He acted in two World Wars. He studied so much. He did what he liked.
He became the father of fantasy genre even he if wasn’t one of the first fantasy writers. It’s the greatest job. J.R.R Tolkien made a cult of himself. There’re a lots of people who adores him even now. All of my best friends love his works as The Lord of the rings and Hobbit.
When I first time watched The lord of the rings I was nine years old. I went to the cinema with my father. The expressions were tremendous for me and my father. The world of Middle-Earth was unbelievable and also petrifying. I discovered about elves, uruk-khays, and hobbits exactly from there. After one year Peter Jackson filmed the second part of this movie which called “Two towers”. And I had to watch this movie on premiere. The second movie was the second explosion of Tolkien’s masterpiece. And in 2003 we had “The return of the king” it is the final part of “The lord of the rings” I was eleven years old when the Tolkien’s book ended, and i was very upset because it will never begin again. But in the last year I was told that hobbit started its filming. I was extremely happy because of that and I’ve been waiting this movie till now. I also appreciate that Peter Jackson filmed this movie according to the book without any additions of producers and himself. But when I’ve read the book my adventure in middle-earth became bigger. Peter Jackson cut away many of scenes which were interesting. For example the scene where Frodo fights against big spider in the Two Towers takes only 20 minutes in film. But in the book this scene had taken more than 2 days. And reading this book is more useful for you, because you will know the world of Tolkien’s fantasy better than watching the film. I advise to everybody read these three books and watch three parts of The Lord of the rings, also don’t forget about to watch Hobbit in 21st December of 2012.
