2. What do you think a mother of four small children/ a member of parliament do on a typical working day?

I’d like to describe the day of the mother of 5 children. Let’s imagine. Her name is Camilla. She is 40. She has two sons and three daughters. She’s very cheerful and kind. So Camilla wakes up at six o’clock every day.  She brushes her teeth, makes bad and cooks breakfast and something  for dinner. Then she with all members of family has breakfast, escorts her husband and helps her children to gather to school. She takes them at school, after what she goes to the gym and to the swimming pool. Then she goes to buy some … and comes back home. She washes some clothes and starts cooking supper. At 4 o’clock she meets children from school and they go to home together, They wait for father and when he comes they have a supper. Camilla has a dishwasher, so  she doesn’t spend too much time for washing the dishes. In the evening she helps children to do their homework, after that she reads and watches her favorite soap opera. Then she has a chat with her husband and goes to bed at 11 o’clock.

4. What is Britishness? What does ‘being Ukrainian' mean?

All countries have reason to be loved.

An there is a state or quality of being Ukrainian, Russian or American. Everything depends on many factors.

And. First of all, bellowing to some nation is a mentality.

Britishness is an expression to explain British culture: habits, behaviors, symbols. For me Britishness is strong beefeaters, royal family, cricket, cheese and wet weather. I really like, that British people are proud

of their traditions. They care about their culture.

As for being Ukrainian, I would like to sat, that Ukrainians have a strong shared culture with neighboring nations, dating back to the 9th and the Land of Rus. Ukrainian mentality was formed influenced by many factors: geographical location at the cross roads by the West and East, climatic conditions and trading historical destiny. Ukr. Are known as hard-working, skilled, kind-hearted, friendly, hospitable, ready for self-sacrifice. They have a special sense of humour. They like gathering, like Vechornytsy and they have a lot of romantic traditional holidays.

5. Tests for new citizens: pros and cons

•Each year, hundreds of thousands of people take citizenship tests. In 2009, over 700,000 people passed the U.S. citizenship test and became naturalized citizens. However, the issue of whether these tests should be required is controversial. Some believe that they are an important part of the citizenship process, while others see them as inherently flawed.

•Most citizenship tests cover the operation of government in some way. For instance, it can include questions such as "Name your U.S. representative" and "What are two Cabinet-level positions?" By requiring that new citizens become familiar with the operation of government, a citizenship test encourages people to become more involved in their own governance and helps them to understand the new laws that will apply to them.

•Citizenship tests are often only given in the most common language used in the country. In the U.S. and the United Kingdom, tests are only given in English and the test taker must demonstrate an understanding of English to pass the test. This requirement helps to ensure that new citizens will be able to understand communications from their new government and their fellow citizens. On the other hand, it can exclude people who do not have the resources to learn their new country's dominant language.

•Many countries have been criticized for the low standards they use for a passing score, or for how easy it can be to guess the correct answers on their tests. The U.S. citizenship test requires only 60 percent of the questions to be correct for civics and one in three correct for English. Some countries, including the U.S., make the questions and correct answers available to the test takers ahead of time. Critics often voice concern that these tests are simple exercises in memorization.

•The biggest criticism aimed at the tests is that they are not relevant to determining whether someone would be a good citizen. Many argue that memorizing history, geography, vocabulary words and government procedures have nothing to do with whether a person will add to the culture of a country. They also contend that the questions are less about values and integrity, and more about test-taking ability

8. Plan a journey across your country.

9. Advantages and disadvantages of living where you live

In our time the majority of population inhabits big cities while there are a lot of people who prefer to live in a peaceful country. I think that life in a metropolis is more comfortable.

To begin with, living in a big city such as Kiev has many advantages.

First of all, big cities offer a wide range of entertainment: shopping centers, restaurants, recreation centers are always within easy reach. Public transport is quite good: you can go anywhere by bus, train, plane, tube, tram, trolleybus. Moreover, if you have an emergency or disease you will easily find any hospital in the city near your place. The man, who lives in the big city, has more opportunities to build a successful career. Life in the city is full of varieties and a lot of things to see and to do. Living in the big city you can go with the time, know all novelties in different spheres of life. More kinds of job are available. But on the other hand, big cities have their drawbacks as well. Crowding is one of the problems: people are wherever you go. Noise levels can b very unpleasant. Crime rates are higher then in the small cities and villages. Usually there is no place for growing your own vegetables, fruits and for your pets. Polluted environment is important disadvantage too. Traffic jams are an integral part of the big city life. But despite of numerous disadvantages, I won’t change my opinion: life in the big city is really better.

11. Compare yourself to your friend. Do you have much in common? (Use both and neither)

For the whole my life I have kept in my heart and in my soul my best friend who is the true model of an ideal friend for me and whose personality I sincerely admire.

It would be appropriate to start my description of best friend, whose name is Nastya. To start with, I can’t help admiring her wisdom and rationalism in passing fair decisions and giving advices. She always thinks clearly of each her step and advice before making any decisions, and, as a result, manages to do everything as wisely as it is possible. In contrast to me she is very hard-working, ambitious and enthusiastic. But we have something in common: interests, for example. Both of us are literally keen on modern art (specially literature) and classic music. Nastya has unbelievably good taste: I trust her in making choice of place where we go tonight or organizing movie-watching. Neither of us like crowded parties, so usually we meet at small companies at somebody’s homes or visit culture events together.

I’d also like to notice her generosity and devotion as a friend. This girl is always ready to hear me out when I need it and to support me in any period of life. Moreover, the thing that I like most of all about Nastya’s personality is the easiness, with which she accepts the world around. You can frequently see her telling jokes as well as laughing whenever she finds something funny.

All in all, I can confidently say that Nastya is the true pattern of an ideal friend, and I sincerely bless my stars for her.

12. Do you know anyone who is particularly unlucky?

I would like to tell you about a few losers people. Although to some extent they may be happy, because they managed to survive.

The  Most Unlucky People Who Ever Lived

I’m not saying these are the unluckiest people in history; I realize the world is full of starving children and cancer victims. But sometimes you see people who have weird, one-in-a-million instances of bad luck, often over and over again, and you can't help but wonder if they didn't piss off a Gypsy at some point.

I’m talking about people like....

Jason and Jenny Cairns-Lawrence

Unlucky Because:

They've been attacked by terrorists more times than John McClane.

It wasn't just New Yorkers who were traumatized by the September 11th World Trade Center attacks. Tourists from all over the country and the world were in the city at the time, as they would be on any given day. Tourists like the English couple Jason and Jenny Cairns-Lawrence, whose relaxing vacation was interrupted by the worst terrorist attack in history, experiencing a once-in-a-lifetime horror. ait, did we say once in a lifetime? Because four years later, on July 7th, 2005, they happened to be in London, during the worst terror attack in their history. A series of bombs exploded across the city's transit system, killing 52 people. t this point they may have felt cursed or, worse, that they were unknowingly starring in an action film that kept doing shitty sequels. But, you know, New York and London are both massive cities and really, the odds are that at least one family would happen to be in both places on those fateful days. Right?

But it wasn't over. Three years later, they took another vacation. This time, to the exotic Indian city of umbai. There they saw the worst terror attack in that country's history, as shooting and bombing attacks killed and wounded hundreds.

Violet Jessop

Unlucky Because:

She almost went down with a sinking ship... three times.

Traditionally, sea captains considered it bad luck to have a woman on board when they weighed anchor. Jessop's story starts on board Titanic's sister ship, the Olympic. In 1911, Jessop was a stewardess aboard the luxury liner. On September 20, 1911, the Olympic collided with a British warship. No one was hurt in that     mishap but Violet Jessop decided to move on, to serve on a much bigger, unsinkable ship: the Titanic. Look how unsinkable! There she brought not only the same bad fortune but also the captain of the Olympic, one Edward J. Smith. Then there was an iceberg and, well, you've seen that movie. Now, we know what you're thinking. It's hardly bad luck that she was on two boat accidents when it was the same captain both times. Clearly he was the problem, right? We're not done. You see, Jessop made it to one of Titanic's lifeboats and could only watch as the world's largest metaphor slipped under the waves, setting the stage for James Cameron's disappointing follow up to True Lies. Then in 1916, after a short time away from the sea, Jessop signed up to serve as a nurse aboard the Britannic. Sure enough, it floated into a mine and quickly sunk. This time, Jessop's lifeboat didn't get far enough away from the sinking boat, forcing her to jump into the water. Her head klunked in to the keel of the boat but she survived and, for the third time, made it back onto dry land.

Violet Jessop died of congestive heart failure in 1971. She was buried at sea.

Robert Todd Lincoln

Unlucky Because:

Knew numerous US presidents... and basically all of them got shot. Robert Todd was 21 when his father was assassinated. Later, he carved out his own political career and was rewarded with the Secretary of War post under James Garfield's tenure. In 1881, only four months into the gig, Garfield invited Lincoln on a jaunt to New Jersey. Before either man could step onto the train, Garfield was gunned down, mercifully rescued from a trip to the Garden State. Death took a holiday for twenty years but would track Lincoln down a third time, in Buffalo, New York. He was there by invitation from the recently re-elected William McKinley, who figured if he had to suffer a few days in Buffalo, he'd take as many poor bastards with him as possible.

Turns out McKinley was the next presidential target on Death's hit-list. While at a speaking engagement, an assassin shot McKinley twice. Lincoln did not personally witness this one, but was in the room and heard the gunshots. McKinley died eight days later from his wounds.

Knowing he was nothing but bad luck for his presidential pals , Lincoln turned down just about every presidential invitation that came his way saying, "...there is a certain fatality about presidential functions when I am present." which is a pleasant way of saying, "Fuck off, already! If I go, you die!"
