Topics of projects for 1-course students on the lessons of BIY

Midterm 4

  1.  Make a survey finding out the certain changes students (1st course students) have experienced since they entered the university. Prepare the questionnaire and make the interview (at least 20 people should be questioned), write the report based on your findings. (300-400 words). Finally, the survey might be accompanied by some statistics on aspects of students’ lives which faced changes.
  2.  Make a presentation on any country in the world which has good international relations with Kazakhstan. Describe the chosen country according to the following aspects: 1) geographical position (the territory, mountains, lakes, etc) 2) social matters: population, religion, education, etc; 3) political system; 4) economic position; 5) the country’s international ties with Kazakhstan. At the end, students compare the country regarding the aspects above with Kazakhstan.
  3.  Prepare a speech on the theme “If I were a president, what would I do” (It may be substituted by various jobs such as a model, a Prime Minister, an actor/actress, a businessman/businesswoman, etc). Students may show presentations on activities they would do if they had those aforementioned professions.
  4.  Make a questionnaire on important turning points in people’s lives and the effect they had. (changing a job, moving a house, getting married, arguing with/losing a friend, etc) Ask them what happened before/after the event, and how things might have been different. (at least 10 people should be questioned) Ask people whether it was difficult for them to make decisions at those times of difficulties.
  5.  Make a presentation in a form of a leaflet about the top environmental problems of the world. Students have to choose only one of them and suggest the ways of solution.
  6.  Make a presentation of a company you would like to set up one day. Take into consideration company profile as type of business, number of employees, etc
  7.  Prepare a leaflet to one well-known sight in Almaty and recommend things to do there. Students may use posters, cards, etc
  8.  Compile a book with the sights in Kazakhstan (especially in Almaty). Provide the descriptions of sights (historical facts, the facilities, etc) and give translations of them. In addition, some phrases may be noted as a quick help to foreigners or tourists who wish to visit our country.
  9.  Make a documentary film on how a national holiday or a festival appeared in our country (any holiday or festival as Nauryz, the day of Independence)
  10.   Make a video material on life of a well-known Kazakhstani actor, singer or a writer. Some things ought to be shown in presentation as well.
  11.   Present a Kazakh fairytale and perform with possible English equivalents. Students may compile a phrasebook which will contain Kazakh equivalents in English they have used in the fairytale.
  12.   Make a survey on the talents students have. (1st course students). In the results provide statistics and show the keys to success according to what the students have said in an interview.
  13.   Make a report on modern art in Kazakhstan (Almaty, possibly). Visit a gallery or any other place representing art and interview a guide, or any other person there. Prepare a questionnaire and ask people in the street.
  14.   Make a film on students’ life of our university. Show what ambitions the students want to achieve in future and how well they are doing now at lessons. (future interpreter should be in the main focus)
  15.   Make a presentation on the achievements in science the world has reached recently. Students may take some video materials.
  16.   Make a survey on the most preferable job (an ideal job) among the youth in Almaty and find out why people tend to do this sort of job. Students may provide certain the number of jobs in a questionnaire.
  17.   Make a presentation on educational system in Kazakhstan. Try to find out one of the best places to get a quality education. Prove whether it is worth going abroad to get education or remain in the country.
  18.   Interview a boss in any sphere of life and find out what qualities should a boss have in order to succeed and control the staff. Make a report on your findings.
  19.   Make a survey on what brings happiness to people. Prepare a questionnaire and interview students at hostels of our university or any people in Almaty. Compare your findings with statistical information on the internet.
  20.   Make a video material on the causes, consequences and ways of treatments of global diseases. Prepare leaflets, posters as well.
