- We shoot the special laser rifles. In the trunk laser emitter is mounted, which should put things on the target. Each athlete wears headphones while shooting; they are supplied with the sound. The higher the pitch, the closer the target. With this firing, for example, you have not to make allowances for the wind. The only thing we can prevent is the heavy snow (when the laser beam is interrupted). Shooting technique is the same as in healthy biathletes. And we train the same way. I'm beginning to engage in with healthy athletes, but then there were serious problems with my vision.
- There's still one difference: a guide goes out on the road with blind athlete, which is at a distance.
- Yes, I won my medal, together with Ivanov Volodya. He is my guide and my coach. We are familiar for a long time. We studied at the same institution- in Kharkov, lived in a dorm room. Volodya was in the Olympic biathlon team, he played in Salt Lake City. After finishing his active sports career, he was invited to the Paralympic team.
In the distance it is much easier to compete when someone goes in front of you. Hyde "dissects" the air, and I get in the flow. Somehow I had to compete without Volodya because he fell ill. It was much harder. First of all, he is my personal trainer. So it is written in the contract. On the trail his assistance is invaluable. While I was shooting at the shooting range, Volodya at this time knows all the results (as we win, we lose much). We leave the track, and he gives me all the information whether to put pressure needed or to keep the same pace.
- Did disagreements occurre between you?
- Of course. Even fights. Well, aren’t we human beings? I do not remember the reason... Just working moments. If it were something serious, then, perhaps, I would remember.
- How many days a year do you spend on fees?
- It is easier to calculate how many days a year, we are at home. Oh, only one month of the year I can have a rest. The rest of the time is at the training camp, on the road. Okay, now for us a training center and rehabilitation of athletes with disabilities in the western Lviv region has built, we will not have to travel far.
- How do you spend your vacation?
- Ten years of dreaming to go on a fishing trip. Yes, that's all does not work. I have even bought a fishing rod. What is the largest fish caught? Roach. 400 grams pulled.
- How many medals are there in your sport collection?
- More than a hundred exactly. In fact, I specifically did not count. I came to the cross-country skiing and biathlon as a ten-years-old boy. I have been going infor sport professionally for 12 years. So there is something to be proud. I had not yet settled down athletic corner in my house. Just recently my wife and I moved to Kharkov, bought an apartment there.
-How are you going to spend the prize?
- First of all, put aside some money for the education of children. These three I have now (my wife has a son from her first marriage). Then for the apartment repairs. I do not know whether I will have the opportunity to excel at the Paralympics. I would hope so.
- You did not give the impression of blind person.
- Just wear a heavy lens. In general, people adapt and get used to everything. I began to lose sight of five years. The parents noticed that I was very close watching TV. It turned out, I started atrophy of the optic nerve. Operation? I do not want to risk the remaining percentages of eyesight. A doctor does not give guarantee that I will see after the surgery.
- Do you believe in the sport signs?
- At each new race I put on the same sports cap, the one in which I has repeatedly won.
