Homeless people is a burning problem in many countries. How to deal with this problem?
Homeless people is a burning problem in todays society. The homeless are characterized by extreme poverty and isolation, and high rates of dysfunction. They lose their jobs, their credit cards and their mortgage.
Unfortunately, there is a misconception about who homeless person are. It is not the bag person who drifts from one city to the next. Its actually families who cant afford to rent anymore because of high rents, lack of jobs, divorces.
Although the severity of the housing shortage and homeless problem varies from country to country and from place to place, it is safe to say that there are few people today who are totally unaware of it or completely unaffected by it. And what is more perplexing is that in spite of the efforts and funds expended by the governments, there is no sign that the problem is abating.
In poor countries, so called “third world countries” you can meet homeless people on every corner. Thats why government of “third world countries” tries to solve this problem by building more homes and shelters. Ministry of Health encountered with many strange diseases caused from dirty waste, drink from not clean creeks or even puddles. Huge wave of sickness grabbed streets of India, Nigeria, Nepal, Somali and many, many other “third world countries”.
Diseases and viruses are not the only problem caused by homelessness. Statistics shows that level of crimes is much higher in those countries and cities where the major issue is homelessness. People steel money from those who are richer than they are.
So, what are the causes of the homeless? They may be quite different. Economics is usually pointed to as the prime factor. Fires, monsoon rains make villagers leave their villages and go into the cities where some work and shelter might still be found. Each year many people are forced out of their homes when their decaying buildings are finally condemned or abandoned.
To complicate matters, many experts believe that economics may be only one side of the homeless problem. They say that a high percentage of the homeless become so because they are mentally ill and can no longer care for themselves. Although the experts cannot agree on whether homelessness is due to economic depression, the high cost of housing, psychiatric problems or something else, several aspects of problem remain alarming. First of all, there is no denying that the housing problem is intensifying worldwide. Second, more and more people not just single people but families are becoming homeless. And finally, the homeless population is of a young age. These tragic facts cry out for solutions. What is being done to solve the problem?
Not every alcoholic or drug abuser becomes homeless, not every mentally ill person ends up on the street. Homelessness begins as a housing issue, but it is so much more. The issue of homelessness and affordable housing are interconnected. The gap between what people can afford to pay for housing and the cost of housing is a major reason for homelessness. But the causes of homelessness include more than in ability to find housing that is affordable. Besides housing, the other consideration include: the economy, declining wages, job loss, lack of job skills and the adults education to name a few. There are other expense related concerns including: child care expenses, transportation barriers, illness, divorce or separation.
Besides the issues related to adults, there are significant concerns regarding children who are homeless. There are more homeless children today than the total number of the homeless in 1991.
Homeless children are not simply at risk, most endure physical, psychological and emotional damage due to the circumstances that accompany homelessness. Homeless children suffer from poor nutrition and a higher rate of infectious diseases, asthma and related conditions. They lack access to consistent health care, which increases the severity of the illness.
Homelessness knows no national boundaries.
